The Times and Seasons of God

 

“It is the season of the dove, says the Spirit, when  My presence shall cover the face of the earth.
My Spirit is moving in the supernatural, and My people will say across the globe,
the sighting of the dove is here, for it’s the sign that His presence is upon us now!”

 Times and Seasons

God is speaking to Joyce and I about times and seasons, and it seems everywhere we go we are hearing these words.  God has an eternal clock and everything is right on time for His plans. In recent months we have felt God shifting us, and many others, into  new realms of the Spirit.

In the Fullness of Time

In the book of Romans, we read how Jesus came to earth and was born and lived His life on earth “in the fullness of time” for His purpose, destiny, mission and assignment.

But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. (Galatians 4:4,5 NKJ)

At Just the Right Time

The apostle Paul wrote: When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners (Romans 5:6 NLT).

Throughout the years, Joyce and I have tried to learn to be sensitive to “God’s times and seasons.” We have tried to follow the glory cloud even as Moses and the children of Israel followed God’s divine cloud and pillar of fire into their destiny in the promised land.

The apostle Paul refers to the “mystery of His will” and again he refers “to the fullness of time.” There have certainly been times when we have felt we were walking in that mystery.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,
having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,
that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ,
both which are in heaven and which are on earth – in Him… (Ephesians 1:7-10).

In the book of Ecclesiastes, King Solomon wrote about time:

There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest.
 A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to rebuild.
A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. 
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
A time to search and a time to lose. A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak up.
A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.  (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NLT)

In First Chronicles, twelve, when it came time for King Saul to turn his kingdom over to David, he was not willing to do so. David was called by God to be the king, but he was living in caves and fighting for his life. In this chapter we are told that  the sons of Issachar were able to accurately discern the times and the seasons and to know what Israel should do.

A Strange Timing in Deliverance

Years ago, we were ministering deliverance to a young man. It was New Years Eve and he had come to our place in the mountains with our son, John. John had felt intensely that Doug was to come, and as his friend gave reason after reason he couldn’t come, John just would not  relent.

After we had our evening meal, I began to talk to Doug about the power we had in the name of Jesus, and we were almost instantly thrown into one of the wildest times of deliverance Joyce and I have ever experienced. Doug’s voice changed to that of a much older man. The demons were threat­­ening us and at one point he came running across the room with a switch blade knife pointing right at my heart.

I will never forget the peace I felt at that moment. Without taking any position of defense, I said, “You can’t touch me! I’m covered in the blood of Jesus!”

He stopped, the demon stopped. “I know it! I know it!” He shouted as he folded his knife and returned it to his pocket.

The power of God was so evident, but still the demons did not leave until the clock began to strike the hour of midnight. Then, we had complete victory! The demons left and Doug’s voice became his own.

Why did the demons have the right to stay until midnight? Talking to Doug the next day, we learned that the gang in his neighborhood had given him a written threat that he would die at the stroke of midnight. Instead, exactly at that time, he was completely set free by the power of God.

God is Never Late!

Our world, and even our nation is in such a time of turmoil. Never have the lines between good and evil been so definitely drawn. And yet, people who say they know Jesus are voting for such evil – even the killing of babies. We feel this may be the time just before midnight in our country.

Two Greek Words for Time

There are two Greek words used for “time” The word “Chronos” means a sequence of moments emphasizing the duration of the time. And there is the word “Kairos” which means “oppor­tunity,” “season” or “fitting time.” The word “Kairos” includes the idea of an opportunity or a suitable time for an action to take place.

Kairos is related to the Greek word “Kara” which means “Head.” A “Kairos” is a time when things “Come to a head” requiring decisive action. It is when we must “seize the day” to take advantage of the “Kairos time” that has been given to us.

When Paul, the apostle was arrested in Jerusalem and taken to Caesarea to appear before Felix, the governor missed his “Kairos moment.” When he said to Paul, “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.” He missed his “Kairos” moment and two years later another governor took his place.

As believers we don’t want to miss the “Kairos” moment that God has given us to step into the destiny God has chosen for us.
