Kingdom Advancing Prayer Can Change Our World

As we look around us in this New Year, Joyce and I are so aware of the need for prayer; in our towns, our states and our countries. God is calling us to more and more prayer. It’s time we all move into Kingdom Advancing Prayers.

But what are Kingdom Advancing Prayers?
We know Jesus is the King of Kings spoken about in Revelation 19:16. We have no problem in recognizing Jesus as the King in heaven, but many have failed to recognize it is just as true that we are His kings on earth.

But if we are His kings on earth, are we praying like kings? Are we praying Kingdom advancing prayers? Is there a “Kingdom violence” in our prayers?

The apostle Matthew wrote, From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. (Matthew 11:12)

I was raised in a church in which we were taught the importance of praying, but one day I had to face the fact that my prayers were not usually answered. My prayer list was just growing longer and longer!

I prayed as I had been taught, and what I called prayers were actually telling God about all my problems and then asking Him to fix them. Sometimes I even told Him how I felt this could be done.

Instead of Kingdom advancing prayers, I spent hours in fervent worry calling it prayer. I was trying to make God feel sorry for me so that He would answer my prayers. After all, that was the way I heard almost everyone else pray.

Jesus taught His disciples to pray Kingdom Advancing Prayers.
There was obviously something so different about the way Jesus prayed, that His disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray. It came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”

So He said to them,

“When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. (Luke 11:1, 2)

Prayer is about bringing the Kingdom of God from heaven to earth by what we say when we pray. It has to do with our God-given kingship on earth. In addition to being God’s priests on this earth, He has also made us His kings. Jesus is the one and only King of each of us as His kings on this earth (Revelation 19:16)

Kings rule by what they say or decree in their realm of authority on earth.
It is all about the gospel of the Kingdom. Jesus mentioned the “Kingdom of God” or the “Kingdom of Heaven” over a hundred times in scripture. That is more than He spoke on any other subject. When we realize this, it makes the truth that we are His kings on this earth more meaningful.

Kings rule by what they say, by what they decree in their realm of authority on this earth. King Solomon wrote,

By me, Kings reign, and rulers decree justice. (Proverbs 8:15)

When God created mankind out of the dust of the earth (His “New Creations), the first thing He said was, Let them have dominion over this earth and everything in it (Genesis 1:26-28)

Kings take dominion by what they say or decree. Where the word of a king is, there is power… (Ecclesiastes 8:4)

You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, and you will pay your vows. You will also declare (decree) a thing, and it will be established for you; so light will shine on your ways. (Job 22:27, 28)

The word of the king is law and cannot be changed.
King Darius loved Daniel, but those that were jealous of Daniel’s favor with the king tricked King Darius into making a decree that if anyone would worship any other God but Darius, he was to be thrown into the lion’s den. When Daniel prayed to the Lord God of heaven and this was reported to King Darius, the king could not change his decree because the word of the king was the law and could not be changed.

King Darius, in his wisdom, made a second decree. He decreed that The Lord God whom Daniel worshiped continually would deliver Daniel from the mouths of the lions.

Prayer is about what we say.
Jesus taught His disciples that prayer is about what they said. When you pray, say…” Kings take dominion on this earth by what they say, and He taught the disciples to say “Your Kingdom come…” The word for “come” in the Greek language was the word “ercomehe.” It was used as a command meaning “Come here!”

It was the word Jesus used when he commanded Peter to come out of the boat to walk on the water.

It was the word the Centurion used when he mentioned his authority as the commander of the Roman soldiers in explaining why he asked Jesus to Speak a word only and my servant will be healed! He said in Matthew, chapter eight:

“For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one ‘Go, and he goes; and to another ‘come’ and he comes; and to my servant, “Do this,’ and he does it.”

That word “ercomehe” is a command and is the same word that Jesus used when He taught his disciples to say Your Kingdom come.

The Kingdom of God is not going to come from heaven into our realm of authority on earth until we, as His kings on earth, say it as a command “come!” Come here Kingdom of God!”

Prayer is not begging God to do something.
Prayer is speaking with our God-given authority as His kings on earth commanding the Kingdom of God (righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit) to come from heaven to our realm of authority on earth. It is not going to happen until we learn to pray like the kings He says we are.

Now, instead of telling God all about our problems, Joyce and I walk in confidence that God knows what is on our minds. He knows far more about our situations then we do! We spend time praising Him in the Spirit. We worship Him and set our spirits free to worship Him with our heavenly language. Then suddenly, we know what to say, and what to declare. He gives us His words. When we pray this way, our faith bounds forward. We are not trying to believe for something we want, but rather are speaking the answer He has given us in confidence.

When we look around us there are so many problems. But we can’t allow ourselves to be swallowed up in problems! How much better it is to spend our time thanking Him, praising Him, worshiping Him and letting Him whisper His answer into our spirits.

Many times, we don’t need to wait for His exact words. For example, when someone needs healing, we already know God’s will. His Word says,

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
(3 John 1:2)

We can step out in our God-given authority and say, “Healing Come!” Even as we do this, we are listening for other words to come.

Planning and Moving forward

In December I wrote, “After tests, I had an angiogram on November 30. They found two places where the blood flow in my heart was severely blocked and stents were put in. I am now on my way to full recovery!” God is faithful! I have been able to resume ministering in the United States and am now involved in planning my next ministry trip to Malaysia.
